Everyone uses paper, and the different uses of paper are, perhaps surprisingly, determined less by the paper itself and more by the vapour permeability and type of the coatings that are applied to it. Strength, absorbency, anti-jam, print quality, performance, "feel" and surface can all be controlled and altered in this way optimising paper and card for innumerable practical uses.
Measuring vapour permeability accurately is critical in both product development and general quality control – and these are where Versaperm comes in. Tiny changes to a material or coating's composition can lead to substantial changes in its finished performance.
The Versaperm vapour permeability measurement equipment is fast, very accurate and easy to use. Its computerised control means that it requires, at most, minimal training to produce results that are accurate in the parts per million (PPM) range, or even parts per billion in many applications.
The physical characteristics of papers or card materials are primarily created by the coating's vapour permeability. Our systems are capable of independently testing the vapour permeability of up to six coatings, samples, components or products at a time, sometimes in as little as 30 minutes.
The equipment can optimally measure permeability not just with respect to water vapour but for almost any other gas or vapour found in common use – including oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, solvents, nitrogen etc..
In addition to coatings the equipment can also be used to determine the permeability of films, laminates, foils and even finished cartons.
As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers laboratory and consultancy services for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
